Gutter installation cost per foot
Estimates from this calculator's default prices for a one-story house with one downspout per 35 ft of gutter. Your local prices will differ, so change the defaults above to match quotes or supplier prices near you.
| Gutters | Per foot, installed | 150 ft | 200 ft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vinyl, 5 in sectional | $9–$13 | $1,350–$2,000 | $1,750–$2,600 |
| Seamless aluminum, 5 in | $9–$14 | $1,400–$2,100 | $1,850–$2,750 |
| Seamless aluminum, 6 in | $11–$17 | $1,700–$2,550 | $2,200–$3,300 |
| Copper, 6 in half-round | $37–$56 | $5,550–$8,350 | $7,200–$10,850 |
To measure, add up the length of every roof edge that will get a gutter. Most houses don't need gutters on the gable ends.
Aluminum gutter installation cost
Seamless aluminum is the most common choice. The installer forms each run from a coil on site, so there are no joints along the length to leak. With these defaults, 150 ft of 5 in seamless aluminum gutter with 5 downspouts comes to about $1,400–$2,100 installed. Materials are about $625: $450 of gutter with hangers, end caps and corners, and $175 of downspouts with outlets and elbows. Labor is about 17 worker hours.
6 in gutters carry more water and suit large or steep roofs, and areas with heavy rain. The same house with 6 in gutters is about $1,700–$2,550.
Two-story houses
Second-story gutters take longer to hang: taller ladders or staging, more moving around, and downspouts twice as long. This estimate adds 30% to labor for a two-story house and makes each downspout 20 ft. 150 ft of 5 in aluminum on a two-story house is about $1,750–$2,650, or $12–$18 per foot. With 6 in gutters it's about $2,100–$3,150.
Gutter guard installation cost
Guards keep leaves out so the gutters need cleaning less often. Mesh guards at $3 per foot plus about 2 minutes of labor per foot bring 150 ft of 5 in aluminum gutters to about $2,050–$3,100 installed. Guard prices vary a lot by type, from simple screens to micro-mesh systems, so enter the price of the one you're considering.
Copper gutters
Copper costs several times as much as aluminum for materials, and the seams are soldered, which takes longer. 150 ft of 6 in half-round copper gutter runs about $5,550–$8,350 here on a one-story house and $6,950–$10,400 on two stories.
What changes the price
- Length and corners: more feet, more corners and more downspouts all add cost.
- Height: two-story work takes longer and needs longer downspouts.
- Material and size: vinyl and 5 in aluminum cost least, then 6 in aluminum, then copper.
- Removing old gutters: taking down and hauling away 150 ft of old gutters brings the 5 in aluminum job to about $1,550–$2,300.
- Fascia repair: rotted fascia boards have to be replaced before new gutters go up. That's priced separately.
- Drainage at the ground: underground drain lines or extensions away from the foundation are extra.
How this estimate works
There's no gutter calculator on the site yet, so these defaults are typical supplier prices, all editable. Gutter materials are $2.50 per foot for vinyl, $3 for 5 in seamless aluminum, $4 for 6 in and $18 for copper, including hangers about every 2 ft, end caps, corners and sealant. Downspouts are one per 35 ft of gutter (at least 2), each as long as the wall is tall (10 ft for one story, 20 ft for two), at $2, $2, $3 or $18 a foot plus $15–$90 each for the outlet and elbows. The contractor's markup on materials is 20%. Labor is 0.08 worker hours per foot of gutter (0.09 for 6 in, 0.2 for copper) plus 1 hour per downspout, 30% more for two stories, billed at $60 an hour including the contractor's overhead and profit. Removing old gutters is $1 per foot. The range is the result minus 20% to plus 20%. Change any of these above. Homewyse puts aluminum K-style gutters at $10.41–$15.77 per linear foot installed nationally (May 2026); our default 150 ft of 5 in seamless aluminum comes to about $12 per foot at the middle of its range.
Getting quotes
Get at least three quotes for the same gutter size, material, number of downspouts and guards. Ask about hanger spacing, whether removal and haul-away are included, and whether they'll check the fascia. If a quote is far below this estimate, ask what's left out.
Questions
How much does gutter installation cost per foot?
With this calculator's typical defaults, about $9–$14 per foot for 5 in seamless aluminum on a one-story house, $11–$17 for 6 in aluminum, and $37–$56 for copper. Two-story work costs more.
How much do gutters cost for a 2,000 sq ft house?
It depends on the length of the eaves, not the floor area. Measure the roof edges. 150 ft of 5 in seamless aluminum gutter costs about $1,400–$2,100 installed on one story with these defaults.
Can I install gutters myself?
Sectional vinyl or aluminum gutters are a common DIY job on a one-story house. Materials for 150 ft of vinyl are about $550 in this estimate. Seamless gutters need a forming machine, so they're installed by pros.
How many downspouts do I need?
A common rule of thumb is one downspout for every 30–40 ft of gutter, and at least one at each end of a long run. Large or steep roofs may need more.
